Topical treatment with coconut oil for dogs can be used to hydrate the coat, moisturize the skin and even help with conditions such as psoriasis or scabies! This is a simple recipe for dogs as recommended by Dr. Danna-Christian:
- Bathe dog first with a mild shampoo (I like the castile soap ones like this) and rinse thoroughly.
- Apply coconut oil massaging deep into the coat and skin ensuring that problem areas like paws and ears are well covered.
- Let the coconut oil absorb deep into the coat and skin for about 5-10 minutes for the treatment to work.
- Rinse the dog with water then lightly shampoo dog and rinse off to get rid of the excess coconut oil.
- Dry and brush the dog.
The best part is that topical coconut oil is safe in case the pet licks itself!
In the future I want to learn and share specific essential oils that can be added to the oil, which are safe and effective for various pet maladies. Leave comments of how this has worked for you, other suggestions or EO uses.
