Day 4
1/4/17
It just occurred to me that one could look at a fourth consecutive day of this blog and say, ‘wow, already the fourth day!’ But, more than likely, most people would be of the second camp, thinking, ‘oh, only four days, that’s nothing, such a long way to go to 365!’
Well I think each day and each moment should be celebrated and recognized for its significance in the grand picture. Every little piece of the puzzle is necessary for the big reveal in the end. Your attitude about your progress in relation to the finish line is what determines your ability to actually reach that line, and moreover, be content along the way.
What I’m trying to say is, everything is manageable. No matter how hard it is, you can always bear to take just one more little step toward surviving, improving your life, or reaching your next goal. When a task seems overwhelming, break it down into smaller, more manageable steps. If even the steps are complicated, keep breaking it down until you feel comfortable with it.
For example, my goal recently was to go to bed earlier so I can get more quality sleep. However, no matter how hard I tried, life got in the way, and it seemed impossible that I would get to bed before 10 (that early of a bedtime is still impossible in my book). So I changed my goal to 11, and when I didn’t manage that, I gave myself til midnight. Only then did I finally come close to my goal, and I felt good enough about the small accomplishment that I gave myself more goals. I changed my habits so I can be ready for bed at 11, and that gave more room for error and lounging/getting some quality reading/’me time’ in. I’m proud to say that breaking my big goal into smaller, manageable steps reaped great improvements in the long run.
Food for thought: What big goals do you have? How can you make the steps achievable? Are you of the appreciative or demeaning camp?
